BNZ, Auckland, New Zealand
BNZ is one of the first businesses in New Zealand to use the Green Star NZ rating and are piloting the Green Star NZ Interiors rating tool. The Green Star NZ System has been designed for the different phases of a building’s development (design, fit-out and operation).
BNZ chose the HUM System by Formway for its environmental qualities including the use of sustainable materials in its production and minimisation of glues and other solvents. HUM also integrates the open office plan for easy communication between staff members with strategically placed screenings systems that allow for privacy when needed.
Since moving into their new location in Quay Park, BNZ staff satisfaction in their workplace has increased. HUM has also contributed to the increased staff satisfaction levels.
Currently, nearly 400 workstations in the Quay Park One Building are fitted with HUM. Plans are already underway to extend the HUM system to BNZ’s other offices in Auckland and Wellington, bringing the total number to over 2000 workstations by the end of the year. HUM is complemented with LIFE chairs in work and meeting spaces, TRAFFIC storage systems, MET ADAPT meeting tables, and GRID2 workstations as part of the fit out.
The launch of HUM was well timed with BNZ shifting to new open plan offices. BNZ selected the system for a three building fit-out (the Auckland office being the first) because it fulfilled their key strategy of business enablement. This includes the ease of configuring teams in different ways, reducing churn costs, and the ease of movement and connectivity that can be achieved within work groups.
The HUM work system, and Formway’s wider business practices, were received well in terms of environmental consciousness and contributed positively to the green status of BNZ’s new offices.
“What appealed to all our users was that it was modular. There were just so many options. For example, you don’t have to go into a meeting room, there are the higher terraces for all our paper and it was a solution that looked generally the same – it’s the modular agility that makes it so unique,” says
